A Major Change

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. ~Isaiah 30:21

Like many of my other class mates, the answer to "what do you want to be when you grow up?" has changed several times. For me the answer has ranged anywhere from chef, to FBI agent, to fashionista. My last few years of high school I swore up and down that I wanted to be a doctor. I loved the idea of helping others and biology and chemistry were actually interesting to me. However, after seniorities kicked in I finally realized that I probably couldn't handle up to 8 years of school followed by another 2 or 3 as an intern/resident. That's when I decided that my other passion was fashion. After a little research I found out that the college I wanted to attend offered a Fashion Merchandising degree. It seemed perfect.
A few months into school I couldn't help but feel that fashion just wasn't for me. My personality is very introverted. It's hard for me to be outgoing and just talk freely with strangers. That seemed like a little bit of a negative contrast to the ideal "fashionista." I finally decided that I shouldn't let my personality get in the way of something I love.
Another few months comes and goes, bringing several unexpected changes -- including an amazing boyfriend. I still had the feeling that something just wasn't right between me and retail. It didn't seem like the perfect match that I wanted in a career. I finally came to the conclusion that if I were to go through with fashion, I would start my career and regret not doing something with medicine (another passion of mine). The idea of 8 years of school and then some still wasn't appealing to me, so I did a little research. After talking to family and friends and really thinking about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life I decided on changing my major to Pre-pharmacy.
I'm sure that most of the looks on the faces of those who read that last sentence will resemble that of the Pharmacy advisor when he asked me what I was changing my major from. Fashion to Pharmacy is quite the difference.
The reason for this post is simply to say, fashion is still something that I love. I would just prefer for it to be a hobby rather than a career. I plan on keeping this blog and posting whenever I can. I hope to get on a better schedule, but I make no promises! Also, expect the occasional update on how Pharmacy -- a much more rigorous program -- is going for me.
I hope that next semester this transition to a new major will change the way I feel about my future career.
